Farewell, Portland. Hello Austin!

We are so excited that DrupalCon Portland was such an amazing success with more than 3,300 attendees, phenomenal speakers, and so many great community events where everyone bonded and had fun. And, as DrupalCon Portland comes to an end, we are very pleased to announce that our next North American DrupalCon will be held in Austin,Texas on June 2-6, 2014 at the Austin Convention Center.

Austin is a perfect city for hosting a DrupalCon because the local Drupal community is vibrant and growing and will add their own special (BBQ?) sauce to make this event shine. And, you’ll love visiting Austin’s popular destinations, soaking up the local music scene, dodging the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge, and being inspired by the city’s innovative culture.

It’s easy to get to Austin and to get around to all the sites. Plus, it’s really affordable. The official DrupalCon hotels are Hilton Austin and the Radisson and our reduced conference rate for a queen sized room is $172 - $209 per night. But don’t take it from us, Diana Montalion Dupuis, our community lead for DrupalCon Austin says: “I am proud of the vibrant tech community in Austin and can't wait to share the vibe. If geeks migrated, they'd spend every winter in Austin."

All of this goodness of community, culture, and innovation will be captured in the DrupalCon Austin brand thanks to our Official Design Partner for DrupalCon 2014, CTI Digital, who will be responsible for the awesome design you will start seeing for our 2014 DrupalCons.

This year, we improved our selection process for finding a design partner. Rather than using an RFP process, we conducted interviews that allowed us to better engage and evaluate the relative merits of the creative professionals who applied. This made a big difference in understanding the full breadth of each companies’ design talents and let me tell you...we were WOWed by all the talent! We are so thankful for all the companies that participated. It was a difficult choice, but in the end CTI Digital showed us the power of branding as they looked beyond their UK roots and hit the bullseye with a brand that exudes the spirit of Austin,Texas and Drupal creativity. Congrats CTI Digital and welcome to the DrupalCon family.

Visit the DrupalCon Austin website at 8:00pm CDT to see the swarm!

Stay informed on DruaplCon Austin announcements by subscribing to the DrupalCon newsletter and following @drupalcon on twitter.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us in DrupalCon Portland - we look forward to seeing you again next year in Austin!

DrupalCon Portland Day 3: We use Drupal to help others

It's Day 3 of DrupalCon, and so much has happened in the last 72 hours! From keynotes and two full days of recorded sessions, gallons of Stumptown, and let's be honest, sore feet from all the walking... well take a deep breath, because it's not over yet!

So, here's what happened yesterday...

We built a website to help the tornado victims in Oklahoma

On Tuesday night, a team of volunteer Drupal developers gathered in the DrupalCon Portland coder lounge to build a website to help FEMA help the victims of the Oklahoma tornado.

It's amazing to be part of #drupal4ok I've learned more in my time here working with these guys than anywhere else. #drupalcon

— Vincent Flesouras (@vinsnazzypants) May 22, 2013

Watch Drupalers gathered in the DrupalCon Portland Coder Lounge to help build the help4ok.org site.

Watch Day 2 Sessions Online

Our BOF boards are overflowing with topics, so if you had to make the tough decisions between a session and a BOF yesterday, you can subscribe to our Youtube channel to watch day 2 sessions later. Problem solved!

Thursday Keynote

We are so excited to have Michael Lopp of Rands in Repose join us for the final keynote of DrupalCon Portland. We've learned about Drupal 8, and using Drupal to make content bend to your will, now join us to learn about getting your teams to work together to build the stuff you want. Watch "The Engineer, The Designer, and the Dictator", live today at 9:00am PDT.

If you missed Karen McGrane's keynote yesterday, you can watch the video here: Thriving in a world of change: Future-friendly content with Drupal. Watch her challenge everything we thought we knew about Drupal as a content management tool.

Watch the Live Stream

DrupalCon Trivia Night with Jeff Eaton

You still have time to run to the DrupalCon Bookstore (C121) and stock up on Drupal books to prepare for trivia night tonight! Our normal trivia emcees from Drupal Ireland won't be joining us (they're preparing for DrupalCamp Dublin this weekend) so Mr. Jeff Eaton will be gracing us instead.

And with Angie (webchick) home with a shiny new webchicklet of her own, your team actually has a chance to win this!

Trivia Night is tonight from 9:00pm-12:00am in OR Ballroom 204.

Tags:

drupalplanet

DrupalCon Portland Day 2: See the group photo and watch Karen McGrane's keynote, "Thriving in a World of Change: Future-friendly content with Drupal"

Here comes the rain! DrupalCon Portland welcomes our attendees to Day 2, with breakfast sandwiches (look for the big black truck across the street from the Oregon Convention Center) and of course, cold and dreary Portland rain. Grab a Drupal branded hoodie and KeepCup from the DrupalCon bookstore (in room C121) to keep warm between sessions and so fellow Drupalers can spot you when running around the city later this week completing missions from our Photo Scavenger Hunt.

In case you missed it, here's the DrupalCon Portland group photo

Get the DrupalCon Portland group photo in high resolution.

Watch Day 1 Sessions Online

Our awesome session archiving team worked hard yesterday to capture all the sessions from Tuesday. Within a few hours each session video was uploaded to the session nodes and to our Drupal Association Youtube channel. If you can't join us at the conference, you can still get in on this great content! Grab some coffee, kick up your feet, and get ready for hours of Drupal goodness.

Wednesday Keynote

What's DrupalCon without our keynotes? If you can't join us in person today, you can still watch Karen McGrane's keynote, Thriving in a world of change: Future-friendly content with Drupal live at 9:00am PDT.

If you missed the Driesnote yesterday (which was awesome, by the way), you can watch the video here: The Current State of Drupal 8.

Watch the Live Stream

Meet the DA: Visit our booth and join our Board Meeting today

Have you met the staff? Now is your chance! Come hang out with us in the Exhibit Hall, occupy a beanbag, munch on freshly popped popcorn, and get your very own DA or Drupal tattoo or mustache.

Join us after the last session ends today from 6:00pm-9:00pm in Room B112 for an open meeting of the Drupal Association Board. All are welcome to come and see our board in action.

Tags:

drupalplanet

Speaker: Todd Nienkerk

Agile Workshop & Estimation Techniques: Teaching your team to do agile

We’ll be taking down the biggest takeaways from the discussions and sessions for a jam-packed advice packet. So stay tuned after the conference for those tid bits. We’re going to try to record as much as we can via live hangouts, and we’ll even have a moderator to take your questions allowing you to join in the BoFs and Sessions.

Don’t forget to spread the word to your team’s Project, Portfolio and Program Managers - we want to see them in force on Wednesday!

Sincerely,
Shannon Vettes (@svettes)
Drupal 8 Project Manager

*In full disclosure, we struggled to get online scheduling for BOFs working for Portland, and were unfortunately unable to do so. We wanted to be supportive of our community and provide content the community craves, so when Shannon came to us with the proposal to provide alternative project management content, we listened and came up with a solution we feel is both fair and considerate of other groups of people who would want to preschedule BOFs. There are over 90 opportunities for attendees to schedule BOFs during the conference, and we felt it wasn't too much of an exception to pre-reserve 6 of these BOF times for an initiative with clear community support.

If anyone is concerned about how this decision was made, please contact me, I'm happy to talk!

Sincerely,
Stephanie El-Hajj
Program Coordinator, DrupalCon

Check out these incredible benefits of registering before Friday:

Save that $50 late fee and buy yourself something nice. The Drupal Association will gladly take your donation, but couldn't you use a cute new bag for spring?

Avoid the onsite line of sadness where the procrastinators go to register, which is quite similar to a grocery store late at night with only one checker.

Receive our fun and exciting Attendee emails before the conference to help better prepare for your week at DrupalCon.

Bask in the pride and accomplishment that comes with having a completed order in your account. It's like a college degree, just unframed.

With so much going on at DrupalCon next week, there's no reason to wait any longer to register.

Register for the conference for just $550

Register for a Combo Pass for just $650 or upgrade for $100

Register for a Training - just a few courses left!

Register to visit the Exhibit Hall - for companions and Drupal curious
