We are so excited that DrupalCon Portland was such an amazing success with more than 3,300 attendees, phenomenal speakers, and so many great community events where everyone bonded and had fun. And, as DrupalCon Portland comes to an end, we are very pleased to announce that our next North American DrupalCon will be held in Austin,Texas on June 2-6, 2014 at the Austin Convention Center.

Austin is a perfect city for hosting a DrupalCon because the local Drupal community is vibrant and growing and will add their own special (BBQ?) sauce to make this event shine. And, you’ll love visiting Austin’s popular destinations, soaking up the local music scene, dodging the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge, and being inspired by the city’s innovative culture.

It’s easy to get to Austin and to get around to all the sites. Plus, it’s really affordable. The official DrupalCon hotels are Hilton Austin and the Radisson and our reduced conference rate for a queen sized room is $172 - $209 per night. But don’t take it from us, Diana Montalion Dupuis, our community lead for DrupalCon Austin says: “I am proud of the vibrant tech community in Austin and can't wait to share the vibe. If geeks migrated, they'd spend every winter in Austin."

All of this goodness of community, culture, and innovation will be captured in the DrupalCon Austin brand thanks to our Official Design Partner for DrupalCon 2014, CTI Digital , who will be responsible for the awesome design you will start seeing for our 2014 DrupalCons.

This year, we improved our selection process for finding a design partner. Rather than using an RFP process, we conducted interviews that allowed us to better engage and evaluate the relative merits of the creative professionals who applied. This made a big difference in understanding the full breadth of each companies’ design talents and let me tell you...we were WOWed by all the talent! We are so thankful for all the companies that participated. It was a difficult choice, but in the end CTI Digital showed us the power of branding as they looked beyond their UK roots and hit the bullseye with a brand that exudes the spirit of Austin,Texas and Drupal creativity. Congrats CTI Digital and welcome to the DrupalCon family.

DrupalCon Portland Day 3: We use Drupal to help others

It's Day 3 of DrupalCon, and so much has happened in the last 72 hours! From keynotes and two full days of recorded sessions, gallons of Stumptown, and let's be honest, sore feet from all the walking... well take a deep breath, because it's not over yet!

So, here's what happened yesterday...

We built a website to help the tornado victims in Oklahoma

On Tuesday night, a team of volunteer Drupal developers gathered in the DrupalCon Portland coder lounge to build a website to help FEMA help the victims of the Oklahoma tornado.

DrupalCon Trivia Night with Jeff Eaton

Here comes the rain! DrupalCon Portland welcomes our attendees to Day 2, with breakfast sandwiches (look for the big black truck across the street from the Oregon Convention Center) and of course, cold and dreary Portland rain. Grab a Drupal branded hoodie and KeepCup from the DrupalCon bookstore (in room C121) to keep warm between sessions and so fellow Drupalers can spot you when running around the city later this week completing missions from our Photo Scavenger Hunt.

Our awesome session archiving team worked hard yesterday to capture all the sessions from Tuesday. Within a few hours each session video was uploaded to the session nodes and to our Drupal Association Youtube channel. DrupalCon Portland opens today with over 1,270 badge pickups!

DrupalCon Portland is off with a bang! Over 1,270 people have already arrived to pick up their badges and DrupalCon tshirts, and we're expecting as many attendees to arrive tomorrow.

Today alone, over 498 training attendees rolled in, as well as nearly 90 attendees for the CXO event. We're expecting over 3,300 people to attend the conference this week, so don't get stuck in line, get here early and grab your badge before sessions start at 9:00am.

If you haven't registered yet and still want to attend - this is your chance!

Our awesome Help Desk is on hand to help people needing to do walk-in registrations all set to attend the conference. For a speedier trip through the walk-in registration line, bring your laptop and have your Drupal.org login information handy.

Onsite registration and badge pickup opens again Tuesday at 7:00am in Prefunction C, located in the lower level of the Oregon Convention Center.

Introducing PMoFs: BOFs for Project Management

The people have spoken, and the DA has answered! There will now be an AV equipped BoF room devoted to the Art of Project Management in its many forms. We’d like to send a shout out to the DA for the help in securing a space*, to our community’s project managers for your feedback and ideas and to the presenters who generously offered to join in and share their ideas!

PMBoFs? What’s that all about?

The day will be alternating Sessions and BoF discussions, the idea being to provide as much opportunity to share experiences and advice. So bring your problems, questions and ideas to the table and let’s make this day great! Those looking for awesome Project Management content are welcome to join us.

*In full disclosure, we struggled to get online scheduling for BOFs working for Portland, and were unfortunately unable to do so. We wanted to be supportive of our community and provide content the community craves, so when Shannon came to us with the proposal to provide alternative project management content, we listened and came up with a solution we feel is both fair and considerate of other groups of people who would want to preschedule BOFs. There are over 90 opportunities for attendees to schedule BOFs during the conference, and we felt it wasn't too much of an exception to pre-reserve 6 of these BOF times for an initiative with clear community support.
