Drupal, Composer and the Symfony Components: A wonderful world for all of us
Huh? Drupal and Symfony at the same conference? Teamwork and hugs between these two groups are wonderful, but even more important is the shift in the entire PHP community from a mentality of "Not Invented Here" (NIH) to "Proudly Found Elsewhere". For the giants that build the big libraries we all use, this cuts down on duplication and lets each project focus on what it does best.
But nobody wins more in this new world than you and I: the end-developers. In this talk, we'll explore how the PHP landscape is changing and how sharing code in PHP has come from lame and difficult to cool and simple. We'll discuss what "PSR-0" means and learn about the revolutionary Composer project. We'll see just how easy it is to bring outside libraries into *any* project (Drupal7? no problem!). We'll also check out the Symfony2 Components - a group of 20+ standalone libraries that solve problems from filtering through files to writing a web scraper to spawning and monitoring external processes from within PHP.
By the end, you'll have everything you need to bring high-quality outside libraries into any project *today*. Yep, it's a wonderful world.
