Authentication in Drupal: OpenID, WebID, webfinger and Mozilla Persona
OpenID has been part of core for many but it hasn't seen the kind of adoption it was expected to have. Meanwhile, several alternatives have been developed. After a brief comparison of the existing alternatives, this session will present WebID: a new protocol for the Web allowing password-less single sign on. It relies on existing technologies like TLS, X.509 browser certificates and Linked Data to let people manage their online identity without relying on third party providers like Facebook or Google. The authentication process is based on a key pair mechanism in the same fashion as the SSH protocol.
A Drupal 7 prototype exists: https://drupal.org/project/webid
