Beginner's Guide to Solr Search via Search API

"Solr is the popular, blazing fast open source enterprise search platform from the Apache Lucene project. Its major features include powerful full-text search, hit highlighting, faceted search, near real-time indexing, dynamic clustering, database integration, rich document (e.g., Word, PDF) handling, and geospatial search. Solr is highly reliable, scalable and fault tolerant, providing distributed indexing, replication and load-balanced querying, automated failover and recovery, centralized configuration and more. Solr powers the search and navigation features of many of the world's largest internet sites."

During this session we'll walk through replacing Drupal's core search with Apache Solr using the Search API (and companion) modules.

Who should attend?

This is titled as a beginner's guide to search however it's tagged as an intermediate class. The intermediate designation is simply due to the need to understand Solr setup/configuration and how Views works. However even a beginner will be able to learn how to implement Solr with Search API in this session.

What will be covered

We will try to cover as much as possible from the list below.

  • Creating search indexes.
  • Create a Search API / Solr search page.
  • Using the Facet API module to provide a faceted search interface.
  • Using the Views module to create a keyword search block & search results.
  • Theming search results.
  • Using Views to search multiple search indexes.

What is not covered in this session

  • Setting up / configuring Apache Solr.
  • How the Views module works.

Comments

I absolutely want to attend this session! Our site heavily uses solr in drupal, and we are in the process of leaving acquia, so this would be very useful.

This sounds like a good one. I still feel a bit in the dark with Solr inside Drupal and would love to learn more.
