Building a Better Base with Bootstrap

Don't reinvent the wheel, stand on the shoulders of giants! One of the best things to come into the Front End Developers arsenal in a while is the beautiful and powerful UI framework Bootstrap, baked together by the boys at Twitter. Let me show you how our team at OMBU web rewrote Drupal's native markup to align with the markup expected from Bootstrap in our module Boots, so that when the Bootstrap CSS is present the Drupal tabs look like Bootstrap tabs, the Drupal pager looks like the Bootstrap pager, and the native submit buttons are the Bootstrap submit buttons! No longer will you have a site where the designer crafted a great looking site but forgot to style the pager and it renders using native Drupal styles and looks out of place and cruddy. Additionally, there're a ton of wonderfully thought-out elements to build your site in a creative and unique way.

Major Topics

  • Overview of how to get Drupal and Bootstrap working together quickly.
  • How best to use local LESS CSS variables to overrides many of Boostrap's default behaviors and avoiding that "That site was done with Bootstrap" look.
  • Facelifting the Admin Backend with our backend theme
  • Bonus: Conquer layouts with the complimentary module to Boots: Tiles, which harnesses the Bootstrap Grid by allowing live adjustment of column widths and order in a truly awesome way!

Hey, Bootstrap's markup is way cleaner than Drupal's too! John Doe the Developer

Oh pick this one. Very intriguing!

Having done drupal work and starting to work with Bootstrap more on projects outside of drupal, I'd be excited to learn more about bringing these two frameworks together.
