Drupal - Bridging the Data Divide

Data is more than just data. It's work, it's fun, it's information, it's everything we want to get to and everywhere we've already been. Today, we're using Drupal to bridge the data divide by making all kinds of government data more accessible to developers and citizens.

This session will cover the intersection of Data and technology and explore how Drupal in combination with other solutions, can make data more accessible now and into the future. We will explore the the ways in which Drupal is being used today to make public data more open starting with the biggest data in government use case- Data.gov (the largest Data repository of US government data) - and utilizing the smallest use case in DKAN (the Open Data distribution in Drupal). From Biggest to smallest, it's all about bringing Open Data in a reusable way to the masses.

Our Session Tidbits include:

  • Trends in Open Data: Attendees will learn about the basic history of opening government data for use first by citizens and then for intended use in applications
  • Data.gov in Action: Attendees will learn a brief history of Data.gov including integration with CKAN
  • Open Data for the Masses: Attendees will learn about advances in data cataloging and data harvesting including the development of these capabilities in a drupal distribution DKAN/datastore.
  • The Future of Linked Data: Attendees will learn about how systems like Data.gov and DKAN are sharing data in interoperable formats like DCAT, JSON, and RDF.
  • Next Steps in Open Data and Drupal: Attendees will learn about the future of the OGPL and DKAN projects and how to contribute.
  • Questions: With available remaining time, we will open the floor to questions.
