Exploring Drupal 8 Performance

By DrupalCon Portland, Drupal 8 will be well into feature freeze and just a month away from code freeze. The new version will be an exciting milestone in Drupal's history, but for now, it's a major source of anxiety – some of the community even claim that it's 'not Drupal anymore'! Hyperbole aside, though, here are sweeping architectural changes that raise many questions about the future of Drupal performance and operations.

The faint of heart need not attend this session, as Drupal 8 is still a moving target. The adventurous, though, are welcome to come join us as some of the first explorers of this uncharted territory! Attendees will walk away with a preview of what to expect in the new world of Drupal performance. For example, did you know that hook_boot() has been given the boot, or that drupal_flush_all_caches() triggers every module's hook_rebuild()? A portion of this session will also be dedicated to conducting a performance analysis on Twig, the new templating system used by Drupal 8.
