Frontend R.I.D.E. (how we made Grammy.com beautiful)

RIDE (Responisve Implementation from Design Expectations)

Storyline:
The scene opens and we fine our hero (the frontend developer) faced with what seems an impossible, insurmountable, and overwheling task of responsive implementation for a major brand. Slowly staring into the abyss of the Responsive Web and being asked to implement a masterpiece of beauty and style, handed to our hero by a photoshop-wizard who has congured up a plethra of color, typeface, and imagry. As Dr. Frankenstien created life from parts and pieces, so must the Frontend Developer, with flickering lights and angry mobs breath life into the static design mocks, filling in the gaps, making assumptions, and discovering new things along the way.

Goals:
This session aims to share and discuss some of the trials and tribulations, discovery and dissapointment, successes and failures that we have been able to obtain during our past several projects involving Responsive Implementation, specifically using examples and experiences from GRAMMY.COM. Taking a look at the words we use to communicate, the starting and endpoints, and the tools and trick along the way.

Outline:

  • Vocabulay and Communication (frameworks, mobile devices, etc..)
  • Responsive Design + Responsive Implementation = Responsive Improvisation
  • Tools (SASS, COMPASS, ZenGrids, Codekit, text editors)
  • Working On a Team (more than one hand in CSS)
  • Responsive Troublespots & Device Capabilities/Deficiencies

Sounds like an awesome session! I will be particularly interested in hearing why you went with the Zen/ZenGrids over some of the other responsive Drupal themes out there.
