A Guide to Planning Complex Applications in Drupal

Drupal has increasingly been used as a framework for building complex web-based applications. In this session, we will explore how proper planning, documentation, testing, prototyping, and communication can lead to success in your application-building efforts.

In this session we will review effective documentation methods such as entity diagrams, workflows, user stories, field inventories, wireframes, and tests. We will discuss how these fit together to provide a complete set of guidelines for building your application. We will also consider how changes in expectations through the development process can impact requirements and what to do about it.

You should attend this session if:

  • You are thinking about using Drupal as a framework for building a web-based application
  • You are a project manager, business analyst, strategist, or developer who will be involved in documentation for a Drupal-based application
  • You want to learn more about documentation and project planning: Most of the techniques that will be discussed in this session can be applied to less complex projects as well.
  • You are interested in lessons learned from the development of a series of large-scale Drupal projects
