One Drupal Developer’s Agile Experience -

In this presentation we will follow Bleen as he joins a project at NBCUniversal that uses an agile process, his initial reluctance to even be part of the process through his transformation into an advocate of the process.

We will explore why developers might be hesitant or have an unfavorable view of agile, what good agile should really look like, how to use agility to make your product and deliverables more successful.

Part 1. Bleen Joins the Team
Bleen is brought onboard to lead the development of the new NBCUniversal publishing platform on Drupal 7. He is very clear that he would like no part in the agile process - he sees it as a waste of his time and does not see the value in the Backlog creation and Planning we do.

We will discuss how we view Requirements, How we gather Requirements and how we Plan our Iterations to deliver Value to our Partners and Customers.

Part 2. Bleen Starts to Participate
Bleen accepts his role as Dev Lead and begins to mold the backlog to fit the way he is used to working in Drupal - he soon finds out that Drupal and Agile have a lot in common.

Here we talk about how the iterative nature and collaborative environment created by agile is very much like the core tenets of Drupal.org and how building a product using Drupal fits nicely into the agile process - how we run an iteration, how we interact with our customers and how we incorporate feedback to continually improve both our product and process.

Part 3. All Your Bleen Are Belong to Us
Bleen is now guiding the development of the larger NBCUniversal publishing effort and has fully embraced agile as a process that enhances the experience. He is leading the charge to improve current and find new engineering practices and technologies to gain even greater returns on our development efforts.

Finally we will talk about the difference between Agile and Agile for Drupal - how to maximize the agility of your process, why we have chosen to do what we do, and how you can apply many of the same principles.
