Merging Two Tracks: Supporting Drupal 5.x and 7.x in Parallel
How do you support two very different versions of Drupal in an enterprise environment? This is a problem that the University of Calgary currently faces running Drupal 5.x and 7.x in parallel.
The University of Calgary has one of the largest installations of Drupal in the world, hosting more than 1400 individual websites each with one or more administrators. Therefore, thousands of administrators contact and are trained by the University of Calgary’s Web Content Management support team on an annual basis. Now, the university has begun migrating all of its sites from 5.x to 7.x, which will require supporting both versions until the end of 2013.
How does a team of only four handle the volume of requests that it receives? What is their support model for handling two very different versions of Drupal?
In this presentation our staff will explain how we support and maintain our clients’ sites, provide training, and assist them through the migration process. This presentation will provide unique insight into how an educational institution handles an upgrade between non-sequential versions of Drupal and the implications and lessons learned that it had for the university and its clients.
