Omega 4.x: From Download to Layout in 60 minutes

You’ve heard the hype: “Responsive web sites are the future” and “If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, it might as well not exist”.

You’ve also heard about this really popular base theme called “Omega” – the #2 most-downloaded theme on drupal.org, which promises to make your site responsive and mobile-first, handle all the media queries for you, and maybe water your plants and walk your dog, too.

But what does it do, exactly? Which version should you use? How do you use it? Is it really all that and a basket of chips?

This session will cover all these questions and more. We’ll start by quickly going over the differences between Omega 3.x and 4.x, and touch on grid systems and the process of conceptualizing and designing a responsive site. Then we will download the base theme, dive right in, and build ourselves some layouts! By the end of the session, we will have a two-layout theme built and ready for CSS styling.

Absolutely! Anyone who has used Omega before, or any advanced themer who wants to see what the hype around Omega 4.x is (and why it's justified) should attend this.

I think the time-frame is perfectly reasonable to get a person who has familiarity with the theme level up to speed. Even those with no prior scss/compass experience will be able to dive right in.

Also, the layout system Omega 4.x is rocking will immediately appeal to the intermediate themed who wants greater control over their page layouts.

If you are currently using Omega, Delta, Context, or are a Zen user who's curious about what other themes are doing, this is the session for you.

This will be a great session to discuss the future of Omega as well including the upcoming Omega UI builder module (and hopefully something to show off!). Look forward to attending this session!

I've had great experiences with Omega in the past and would love to hear more about the recent improvements.
