Powering a Crowd-Sourced Marketplace with Drupal + Commerce
Online marketplaces are popular business models - they’re a big, scalable opportunity, but they also present unique challenges. How do you support different buyers and sellers and all of the marketing demands their products present?
In this session, Josh Blank, Senior Vice President & General Manager of OpenSesame and Mike O’Connor, President, N.A. of Commerce Guys, will discuss how OpenSesame.com used Drupal and Drupal Commerce to build an eCommerce marketplace to support a crowd-sourced business model. Mike and Josh will discuss both technical details as well as how Drupal + Commerce enables OpenSesame to scale up quickly and serve a growing community.
Specifically, since launching in late 2010, OpenSesame has quickly grown to offer more than 21,000 courses from more than 260 seller partners, with a number of unique features:
- Thorough reporting and accounting capacity to track financial information and transactions.
- Once a transaction is complete, OpenSesame generates a product license automatically based on both the appropriate information about each course and information about the transaction (such as the number of licensed users)
- Custom product types, including both courses and bundles of courses
- Custom pricing tiers based on the volume of the purchase
- Variable revenue sharing between OpenSesame and the seller
Come to this session to learn how to support and scale up an eCommerce marketplace using Drupal + Commerce.

Commerce is The Next Big Thing for Drupal, and here's a successful case study to show best practices and important insights. I work with Mike and Josh, so I know it'll be great.

This has to happen. This could be one of the biggest presentations for Drupal Commerce users/innovators.
