Responsive Design for Print Publications

On most sites, the annual report is just PDF version of the print piece. You know you need it on your site but it’s so ho-hum boring that hardly anybody ever downloads it. And if someone did click on the link, they would have to wait for PDF to download (average size of 1-5 M), and then read a version the print piece that not very responsive or interactive. Learn how you can create engaging version of an annual report that will not put viewers to sleep.

In this presentation, Dave Wagner will explore Responsive Design Techniques used in a building a responsive website to match the layout of the print version of an annual report. This presentation will discuss the steps used to build the Georgia Tech Annual Report website.

Also discussed is how to use and modify exiting responsive themes, as well as how to use break points to manage the spreads so that they will degrade gracefully on smaller devices.

Dave will review modules and concepts that will allow the experienced web developer to build an interactive annual report that works on all mobile devices and desktops.

And a final note about designing for desktop or print pieces may be an increasingly backwards way of thinking about how to build an annual report. Designing for mobile first will open new opportunities for growth and lead to a better overall user experience on any device.
