unthinkingly
I am interface designer working on projects multilingual news and scholarship. I am especially interested in user research for citizen journalism. I am a UX Developer at Meedan, an international nonprofit, where I've been doing nonprofit UX stuff in the Bay Area since, gosh, 2007.
I geek out on multilingual interfaces, design strategy, civics, behavioral research. I've talked (at painful length) at SXSW, AIGA Design Week in San Francisco, the International CrisisMappers Conference, the Nonprofit Technology Conference. I just gave a talk at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, where I now live, right here in the middle of the freaking Pacific, if you can believe that.
Prior to my nonprofit life I did user research for large corporations and before that I was in school at UNC-CH for investigative journalism and political science. Before THAT ... wait you know everything about me and I don't know anything about you! Follow me on Twitter at @unthinkingly, say hello, let's be penpals, ok?
Let's talk about: Design Patterns, Guerrilla UX (or Agile UX or Lean UX, whateves), that scrappy (very, very small) World of Nonprofit Usability, the very different land of Continuous Integration and DevOps (they have nicer chairs), and by all means, Sass and CSS — probably my strangest loves (I don't always trust codes, IYKWIM). Let's talk about psychology, graphic design, workflow, learning, comics-as-documentation, interviews, wireframes, the evil of transcripts, prototypes, pen and ink. If you really want to, we can talk about civics and politics, but I try to keep all of that on twitter at @unthinkingly! :)
