Lies about the job market: How to apply for jobs in the 21st century

Obviously, if you're reading this, you probably already have a job in the tech industry. But how do you get the job you want?

Sometimes it seems the odds are stacked against you: there are hundreds of well-qualified people applying for the same jobs as you, and oftentimes, the people reviewing resumes on the first round are not even the folks you will be working with.

How can you make sure to stand-out from the rest in a way that is memorable, while also accurately portraying your expertise?

Talent looking for work:

I have been in "the biz" many years, and reviewing applications or resumes has always been a part of what I do. You won't believe what people will do to get the attention of an employer! Sometimes, what I read on a cover letter or see on a resume makes me lose faith in humanity. Come and benefit from the hours I've spent reviewing resumes and portfolios, and learn do's and don'ts of presenting yourself to your next employer. Crafting a good resume and cover letter is a true art form. Learn how to make yourself stand out from the myriad of folks applying for the same positions as you are.

Employers looking for talent:

I have used pretty much every platform out there to look for talent, short of using recruiters. Let me show you some of the workflows that I have found successful in finding talent, and share my knowledge of which platforms tend to be more successful.

Comments

I never really thought about resumes having a "design", I always follow the standard format of contact info, objective, skills, work history in reverse chronological order.
