Media, StreamWrappers and You - Powering a rich video experience through Drupal using thePlatform
Rich media has long been an area of confusion and frustration for any web publisher wishing to display rich media content to users in Drupal. Further, in order to achieve this online rich media experience, publishers had to use reams of code. Drupal 7 brought new approaches to the forefront and the Media module is a key part of that transformation. Media sources can now be built once, contributed back to the community, and used by anyone. Little custom code is now needed since there is a robust framework to deal with the media assets and incorporate them into any fieldable entities.
In this session, we will explore the history of Media and walk through a specific implementation to integrate Drupal 7 with thePlatform's, a leading white-label video publishing company, MPX video management tool. We will show how this easy and intuitive tool allows site owners to integrate the same video management system that powers enterprise sites like Hulu, NBC, PBS, and BBC Worldwide with their organizations’ Drupal sites, and to get them up and running quickly and easily.
During this session, we will also cover the build of a custom Media implementation, which can be used by any developer who needs to incorporate an external media provider into a Drupal site.
