Making Drupal Meetups and Events Rock

“Come for the software, stay for the Community”. The Drupal Community, as a whole, is composed of many smaller, local communities. If the smaller communities didn't exist, where would the Drupal Community really live?
This panel discusses how meetups and events in different regions around the globe work and how we can make them better. This will be an open discussion, moderated and lead by the panel, about what we are doing at our events to create healthy, inclusive, lasting communities.
Why should you come to this session? This discussion will provide new ideas on how to grow local meetups, events and, in-turn, local communities. You'll leave inspired with ideas for better, more exciting meetup content, create more participation, and encourage new attendees.
Who should come to this session? Anyone interested in starting a meeting, improving a meetup, or taking more of a leadership role in meetups.
What’s in it for me? You’ll learn tips and tricks about how organizers work to ensure their local community keeps growing and stays passionate. A strong local community benefits everyone, including the organizers, by raising awareness of Drupal, growing local talent, and providing local resources to utilize. Ultimately, a stronger local community results in a stronger local economic community.

I am a perfect example of a Drupaler being introduced and nurtured by local meetups, they truly foster life-long friendships and business partnerships.

This sounds like a very useful session. I have struggled to get involved and stay engaged with my local Drupal meetup and had a pretty lackluster experience at a regional DrupalCamp, so I'd be interested to get some productive suggestions that could help make our NC Drupal community work better.

I haven't much time to attend meetups in the past 6 months, but I would love to attend them more regularly and of course, the more welcoming, the better.

I help organize meetups in my community, so I'd love to hear how I can improve! I think all event organizers can benefit from knowing how to improve event experience.

This is a great idea for a session. I lead the Gainesville FL drupal users group (meetup tomorrow! http://groups.drupal.org/node/282443). Meetup attendance is always hit or miss, and we're always looking at new ways to attract people

Hearing ideas about improving local meetups would be a good use of time at Portland. Working with others in our local community to improve our meetups can often be difficult. If this is a panel type presentation even better.

Virtual meetups can be awesome too and foster great Drupalista relationships and mentoring. Very helpful if you cannot get out to in-person meetups. Our group has regularly scheduled weekly meetups online, but the conversation sometimes continues on a daily basis.

The presenters really know their stuff! I'm writing this comment from a meetup that is PACKED! Not an empty seat in the house! I look forward to this particular discussion and presentation for feedback on how our local community can improve.
